Tryout Information

PLEASE NOTE: Our Tryouts are temporarily postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Atlantic District will announce  dates and times for the start of tryouts and we will post the new dates when we are permitted. We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to returning to the ice.

The NJ Bandits are not a status driven organization. Letters are far less important than an athlete’s experience. Our objective is to provide leadership and create a complete hockey experience using USA Hockey’s American Development Model – Long Term Athlete Development Principals. Our goal is to cultivate each player’s passion for the sport and establish a culture of esprit de corps in a safe, clean and ethical atmosphere where athletes are empowered in an appropriately competitive environment.

In order to ensure athletes are placed on the appropriate team, and that the team is placed at the appropriate competitive level, we use a multi-phase selection and declaration process. It is our intention to field AA, A & B at each level based on the talent pool without compromising the integrity of the competitive component in the development process.

American Development Model (ADM):
The Bandits are proud to be one of only three organizations named as a USA Hockey Model Association Program by USA Hockey! Embracing scientific development principles and using the ten year, 10,000 hour training method. The Bandit coaching staff, takes great pride in striking a balance between letting the player be a kid and helping athletes realize their potential. There will be evaluations for the Mite and Squirt players with the intention of placing all participants on teams.

Tryout FAQ

Please email the Bandit Hockey Director, Justin Stanlick at to discuss.

At 12U and 14U the tuition for AA and Minor is higher, why?

At these levels the teams will be participating in the NJYHL + EJEPL leagues increasing the game count.  In addition, those teams will play two EJEPL showcases and one additional tournament in the 2020-2021 season.

How does placement of my child work at the 6U and 8U level work?

After signing up for the Bandits, 6U and 8U players will practice in skill development skates during the spring.  At the end of the spring program, players will be split up on teams based on skill level.

For 6U and 8U, does my child need previous playing experience?

No, at the 6U and 8U levels we have multiple teams including beginner!
